Jane H. Downey has been certified by the S.C. Supreme Court as a specialist in bankruptcy and debtor/creditor law since 1996. She also is certified by the S.C. Supreme Court as a mediator and arbitrator. The same year the American Board of Certification also certified her as a specialist in business bankruptcy. Jane is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute. She is also the incorporating attorney, a member of, and is a past president of the S.C. Bankruptcy Law Association.

Jane represents creditors, debtors, and unsecured creditor committees in chapter 7, 9, 11, 12, and 13 business and consumer cases, including bankruptcy litigation. She is on the list of mediators with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of South Carolina. She assists consumers with loan modifications both in and outside of bankruptcy.
She is one of the five attorneys at Moore Taylor voted by their peers to be recognized as Super Lawyers by the national Super Lawyers magazine. Jane currently serves on the editorial board of South Carolina Lawyer magazine and the South Carolina Bar Pro Bono Committee. She also volunteers her time with the state bar’s Ask-a-Lawyer Program and C.A.R.E. (Credit Abuse Resistance Education). Locally, she is an organizer of Open Streets Columbia through her appointment by the City of Columbia City Council to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
She is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy topics, particularly those involving domestic law. Jane is a 1987 graduate of Furman University and a 1990 graduate of the Emory University School of Law.
